King Ahaz refused to ask for a sign
Moreover. the Lord spake again unto Ahaz, saying, Ask thee a sign of the Lord thy God; ask it either in the depth, or in the height above. But Ahaz said, I will not ask, neither will I tempt the Lord. And he said, hear ye now, O house of David: Is it a small thing for you to weary men, but will ye weary my God also? Isaiah 7: 10-13
God was wearied because of their unbelief. God knew that King Ahaz did not believe, but gave him an opportunity to ask for a sign to strengthen his unbelief. Ahaz refused.
Ahaz wasn't like Gideon. Judges Chapter 6. Gideon had been told that He would save Israel but did not believe God at first. He had humbly asked for a sign and God gave him one to strengthen his unbelief.
Even though King Ahaz refused, God gave the Kingdom of Judah a sign anyway. It exists in three parts.
1. The virgin birth sign was named Immanuel (Isaiah 7:14)
2. A special diet of butter and honey (Isaiah 7:15)
3. His growing up into childhood during a time when the confederacy was to be broken (Isaiah 7:16)
These signs were never fulfilled in the old testament Jewish era.
Therefore the Lord himself shall give you a sign; behold a virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel. Butter and honey shall he eat, that he may know to refuse the evil, and choose the good. For before the child shall know to refuse the evil, and choose the good, the land that thou abhorrest shall be forsaken of both her kings. Isaiah 7: 14-16
Virgin Birth - Sign - 1
Therefore the Lord Himself shall give you a sign; behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel. Isaiah 7:14
Riddle. A virgin never conceived and a child was not born of a virgin mother during King Ahaz' reign or lifetime. A miracle of this caliber did not take place in any old testament scriptures or Jewish era. No son that was born between Isaiah and his prophetess wife was of a virgin birth. Therefore, there is a time discrepancy in this prophecy and the only virgin birth sign that was recorded was the birth of Jesus Christ.
So how in the world are we supposed to make heads or tails of this beautiful prophecy? And what does it have to do with the latter days, the very days in which we live in today?
